SmartBear Software will release an APM platform at IRCE

The vendor says the technology will let e-retailers test applications and application programming interfaces that link to other software.

SmartBear Software next week at the Internet Retailer 2014 Conference & Exhibition plans to launch a new testing technology that lets a retailer conduct load testing and synthetic testing, as well monitor real transactions using a single platform.

The technology, which the vendor calls AlertSite UXM, will also let an e-retailer test both applications and application programming interfaces, or APIs, which facilitate the exchange of data between software products.

The vendor says it will deliver the platform either under a software-as-a-service model, under which an online merchant pays a monthly subscription fee to access the software through the Internet, or as on-premise software that the retailer runs on its own servers. The vendor has not yet disclosed the product’s pricing.

The three pieces to the platform are:

• AlertSite UXM Synthetic, which allows a merchant to simulate the impact a large influx of users has on the site.

• AlertSite UXM Real, which lets a retailer measure actual user transactions.

• AlertSite UXM Load, which is a load test service a merchant can use to validate an application’s performance from a user’s point of view.

The platform stems from the vendor’s acquisition of application performance management vendor Lucierna Inc. last December, says Rich Caplow, SmartBear’s senior vice president of product commercialization

“SmartBear sits at the intersection of development, testing and operations teams,” he says. “Bringing together the APM technology from our Lucierna acquisition with our testing and monitoring technology creates a unified industry-leading platform that allows our customers to easily and dramatically improve their delivery of a more effective end-user experience and to enable continuous software delivery.”
