Web and mobile movie ticket seller Fandango has launched Tixpress, a new mobile ticketing feature in its smartphone apps, developed exclusively for Visa Signature account holders. Created for consumers seeking time-saving convenience and for spontaneous moviegoers, Tixpress combines geo-location and time-aware technologies with a new single-page ticket checkout and redemption process.

In three steps, a Visa Signature account holder can quickly locate the closest Fandango partner theaters, view a list of movies playing over a several-hour time period, and then purchase movie tickets all from a single checkout page on the mobile commerce app. When a consumer opens the Tixpress feature in the app, the app uses the smartphone’s GPS technology and clock to create a list of movies with showtimes starting soon and located at nearby theaters. The consumer selects the film and then pays for it on the checkout page. A consumer can store her credit card information in the app for quicker purchasing. After buying tickets, moviegoers redeem their Fandango tickets at the theater via paperless mobile tickets in the form of QR codes on their smartphone, or pick up paper tickets on-site.

Tixpress will be available only for Visa Signature account holders through August 31, 2013.

“Fandango’s customers are among the most digitally savvy, and collaborating with Visa to create this innovative new app feature makes it even easier for people to get to the movie theater with just a few taps on their mobile devices,” says Scott Schiller, executive vice president of digital media sales at NBCUniversal, parent of Fandango.

As an additional perk, Visa Signature account holders will receive special offers throughout the summer, including “+1 Movie Fridays,” a promotion where Visa Signature account holders who purchase two or more tickets to a Friday show will receive one of those tickets free of charge. Account holders can also purchase $25 Fandango Gift Cards at a 20% discount.

“Working together with Fandango to create this exclusive offer for Visa Signature account holders exemplifies our strategy to offer relevant solutions that enhance account holder experiences,” says Nick Talwar, head of North America consumer credit at Visa Inc.. “We know Visa Signature account holders are seeking entertainment opportunities and with this new in-app feature, they can easily and conveniently access a moviegoing experience, save time and money, and get the most out of an activity they already enjoy doing. ”

Fandango sells tickets to more than 21,000 screens nationwide, the company reports. Fandango’s movie ticketing apps are available on the iPhone, iPad, Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone 7 and other platforms. Its apps have been downloaded 33 million times, the company says.
