Online flash sales retailer Gilt Group Inc. announced today it has hired Elizabeth Francis as chief marketing officer.
Francis had held the same position at Intelligent Beauty, a company that develops online health and beauty businesses. Francis also was president of JustFabulous, one of those ventures.
Francis will report to Gilt CEO Kevin Ryan.
"Elizabeth's experience in the e-commerce fashion and accessories industry, coupled with her proven track record of scaling brands, makes her a terrific fit for Gilt," Ryan says. "Gilt has quickly built a brand through unconventional marketing vehicles and Elizabeth is well suited to lead marketing to ensure we continue on that path."
Francis replaces Alexis Maybank, a founder of Gilt who had been acting as chief marketing officer for six months, since the departure of David Zucker in July. Health products e-retailer Vitacost.com Inc. hired Zucker as its chief marketing officer a month later.
Maybank will resume her role as chief strategy officer at Gilt, No. 49 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
Gilt recently announced it was laying off about 10% of its work force and that two senior executives were leaving the company.
Jason John, senior director of marketing at Gilt Groupe, will be speaking from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 7 at the Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition in a session entitled “The many flavors of a social strategy: What will work for you?”
