RepairClinic.com Celebrates Milestone: One Million Customers

1 out of every 100 households in America try their hand at appliance repair; 3 lucky winners receive $1,000 toward a new appliance

CANTON, Mich., Dec. 7 -- In 1999, DIY`ers across the country began using a service that didn`t -- in fact couldn`t -- have existed before the advent of the internet. In that year, RepairClinic.com began helping people repair their own major appliances, for free. Now, some seven years later, RepairClinic.com is helping more than 40,000 people a month. This month, they are celebrating their millionth customer.

"Our first meeting was held in my dining room," says CEO and co-founder Larry Beach. "As the concept crystallized, we quickly assembled our leadership team, each of whom is still with the company. This leadership team and our entire staff have done a tremendous job to get us to this important milestone."

Chris Hall, co-founder and president, ran an appliance repair business and oversees the marketing department. Jeff Holtzman, CIO left his private consulting business to head up the IT department. Mike Pierson, CFO and former colleague of Beach, serves the financial needs of the company. Kim Messer, VP of distribution, served as distribution manager of a large book publisher before joining. And John Sowden, VP of purchasing and technical services, worked as an expert technician and manager of a mid-sized appliance parts and repair business.

"Our entire staff was there in October 1999 to personally hand the first package to the delivery guy. Today, we have as many as 20 people packing orders, which we ship by the truckload daily," says Beach.

To celebrate the milestone, RepairClinic.com has randomly drawn three names from among its million customers; each will be sent $1,000 toward the Frigidaire appliance of their choice. Also, beginning today, the first 500 customers who make a purchase online during December will receive 20% off all parts and accessories. Local customers will get special treatment: the first 500 customers to pick up their order at the RepairClinic.com retail store will receive their choice of a 6-in-1 screwdriver or a RepairClinic.com hat.

Poised for future growth
RepairClinic.com has seen huge growth in its online traffic; the company now helps more than 40,000 people each month. In 2004, the company moved to its new 72,000 square foot headquarters in Canton, Michigan, and currently employs nearly 100 people.

RepairClinic.com`s customers are clearly happy with the service they`re getting. "A substantial number of our orders each day come from existing customers," says Hall. "And we feel there`s more room for growth. One million customers is nearly 1 out of every 100 households in America -- we`re working on reaching the other 99. Tell your friends and family!"
