The social network, with 60 million daily users, plans to begin selling sunglasses with a built-in camera for $129.99.
The seller of office supplies and other business products has promoted its top B2B channel executive, Joe Doody, to corporate vice chairman. Shira Goodman, head of global growth, succeeds Doody as president of North American Commercial, which is comprised of B2B e-commerce operations StaplesAdvantage.com and Quill.com.
Staples Inc. has appointed a new head of its North American Commercial division, which includes its business-to-business e-commerce sites StaplesAdvantage.com and Quill.com. The change comes as the company moves ahead plans to “reinvent” itself and build out its product lines in categories including office furniture, breakroom facilities, power tools, medical devices and garden supplies.
Shira Goodman, a Staples veteran who has served in several senior management positions, mostly recently executive vice president for global growth, has been named the new president of North American Commercial. She succeeds Joe Doody, who is moving up to the position of vice chairman. Both will continue to report to chairman and CEO Ron Sargent. Their appointments take effect Feb. 2.
Goodman, who joined Staples in 1992, has held senior management positions in areas including corporate strategy, marketing, operations and human resources. She has led the development and launch of the company’s “reinvention” plan and has played a key role over the years in developing its system of delivering online and catalog orders to business customers.
"Shira is an outstanding leader with unmatched experience across our company," Sargent says. "Her experience with our reinvention will be a huge asset as we continue to drive growth in our North American Commercial business by expanding into new categories."
As vice chairman, Doody will lead the company’s ongoing efforts to reposition itself at a time when office supplies sales are trending down as communications become increasingly digital. He’ll be responsible for strategic planning and business development and also lead the company’s operations in Australia, New Zealand and unnamed “high-growth” markets.

"His proven success and deep experience will be crucial to our reinvention as we continue to expand into new categories and build on our e-commerce and delivery capabilities to provide every product businesses need to succeed."
Prior to joining Staples in 1998, Doody was president of Danka’s Office Imaging Business in North America. He also worked at Eastman Kodak as vice president in charge of office imaging products in North America.

Quill.com, which Staples acquired in 1998, provides office supplies and other products to small and mid-sized companies.
