He comes from IDC, the world’s second largest IT research and advisory firm, where he spent more than a decade, most recently as Group Vice President of Worldwide Sales for six of IDC's Insights Vertical Business Units. Brien will utilize his more than 25 years of experience in marketing, managing and selling industry research and consulting services as well as various application software solutions to extend the worldwide reach of SmartBear’s AlertSite to businesses of all sizes.

Brien has over 25 years of achievements in marketing, managing and selling sophisticated, subscription-based industry research and services, eLearning content and technology, as well as hardware and banking application software to Global 2000 organizations, financial institutions, technology providers and consulting firms in international and U.S. markets. He was Vice President of Worldwide Sales at Financial Insights, an IDC Company, Manager of Northeast Regional Sales at SkillSoft and Director of Sales & Marketing at TowerGroup, now the Corporate Executive Board (CEB). He also served as Manager of European Operations for NSS Corp, a retail banking software firm, and IBM’s largest financial services VAR at the time. He has a bachelor’s degree from Bowdoin College and a master’s degree from The University of Virginia.
