Apple tops January response time tests

Apple posted the best Internet Explorer and Firefox response times in January, says Gomez.

Apple.com produced the best high-broadband access times among 22 large web retailers tested in January, according to Compuware Gomez. Apple.com posted the fastest response time in Internet Explorer tests with an average load time of 0.66 seconds and the fastest Firefox load time, with an average of 0.64 seconds.

Costco.com finished in second place in Internet Explorer tests at 1.25 seconds, followed by Dell.com (1.33), Overstock.com (1.64) and LLBean.com (1.74).

Costco.com also finished second in January’s Firefox response time tests with an average of 0.83 seconds. LLBean.com (0.85) came in third, followed by Dell.com (0.87) and Overstock.com (1.07).

The average large retailer’s high-broadband response time for a shopper using Internet Explorer in January was 3.03 seconds, the Gomez study shows. The average Firefox response time among the same group of 22 retailers was 2.03 seconds.

Response time is the average time it takes to fully download a web site’s content.
