Apple leads response time tests in December

Apple posted the best Internet Explorer and Firefox response times, says Gomez.

Apple.com produced the best high broadband access times among 21 large web retailers tested in December, according to Compuware Gomez. Last month, Apple.com posted the fastest response time in Internet Explorer tests with an average load time of 0.69 seconds and the fastest Firefox load time with an average of 0.65 seconds.

Costco.com finished in second place in Internet Explorer tests at 1.19 seconds, followed by Dell.com (1.21), HPShopping.com (1.73) and Overstock.com (1.76).

Costco.com also finished second in last month’s Firefox response time tests with an average of 0.81 seconds. LLBean.com (0.86) came in third, followed by Dell.com (0.89) and Overstock.com (1.06).

The average large retailer’s high broadband response time for a shopper using Internet Explorer in December was 2.52 seconds, the Gomez study shows. The average Firefox response time among the same group of 21 retailers was 2.14 seconds.

Response time is the average time it takes to fully download a web site’s content.
