Cyber Monday, reported to be the largest selling day in ecommerce history, proved to be another bright spot for Volusion retailers.
Volusion, the leader in ecommerce software and services, today announced its customer sales data and statistics from the 2012 holiday online shopping season ranging from November 1 through the end of the year. Merchants using the Volusion ecommerce platform processed over $500 million in online sales during the holiday selling season, a 13 percent increase over 2011. Volusion merchant sales for this period represented over 1.25 percent of all sales in the industry as of December 23, according to a report from comScore.
Cyber Monday, reported to be the largest selling day in ecommerce history, proved to be another bright spot for Volusion retailers. While comScore reported a 17 percent year on year increase in online sales on Cyber Monday, Volusion merchants saw a larger growth rate at over 20 percent. Further, Volusion Cyber Monday sales made up just over 1.4 percent of all Cyber Monday sales as reported in the comScore report.
Volusion merchants peaked at over 50,000 products sold in a single minute during the holiday sales season from November 1 through Christmas Day. During that same time period, those customers sold a total of 22.3 million products.
Looking deeper into merchant sales and online growth, Volusion reported findings in specific industries. From a subset of customers who have designated their industry, Volusion found that the following were the top four revenue-generating industries during the holiday selling season:
- Sporting Goods
- Health and Beauty
- Home and Garden
Methodology: Volusion’s internal business intelligence team aggregated data from the company’s customer base of over 40,000 online stores. This data included: sales in dollars, products sold and orders processed during the timeframe of November 1 to December 31, 2012. This created a basis by which comparisons were made to the larger industry numbers in a December 23 report released by comScore.
