When Ten Thousand Villages relaunched on the Magento Enterprise Edition e-commerce platform just before last year’s holiday season, it ended up with 70 separate sites for each of its physical stores, as well as a main e-commerce hub. Each site includes a store’s location, hours and event information running off the same web-hosted application. In a variation on the same theme, the native, handmade goods seller also reworked its inventory management system to include information across all its on- and offline locations, which enables an online shopper to check an item’s in-store availability. In the upgrade, Ten Thousand Villages also redesigned its site to improve customer engagement by adding profiles of the artisans who craft its products, complete with rich images and videos.
