Demandware says 30 of its clients booked more than $100 million in online sales in 2015, up from 22 a year earlier.

Smartphones and tablets in hand, U.S. consumers took to Travelzoo Inc.’s mobile commerce site and apps this summer to scout vacations. The travel deal site says mobile traffic has accounted for 26% of its traffic between July 1 and Aug. 15, a dramatic increase from 10% for the same period last year. That amounts to four million visits this summer, Travelzoo says. Travelzoo did not say when the period ended.
And it’s not just consumers pining for a getaway using smartphones and tablets to visit Travelzoo. The company says more than 40% of these purchases on a mobile device were made while the consumer was at a destination more than 50 miles from home, suggesting vacationers are going back to the site to find additional bargains.
Travelzoo’s Local Deals, offer consumers discounts on nearby activities such as vineyard tours and jet skiing, as well as offers from local restaurants. “It’s particularly rewarding to see travelers buying in-destination deals through their mobile devices while on vacation, as this signals a heightened level of interaction with the Travelzoo brand,” says Dave Ambrose, senior director for mobile and social for Travelzoo.
More than 25 million consumers globally subscribe to Travelzoo, which posts travel deals on its web site.
