New Site Creates Mobile-Friendly Shopping Experience That Replicates Lids.com
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., Dec. 20, 2011 – Specialty headwear and sports apparel retailer LIDS, a division of Indianapolis-based LIDS Sports Group, has launched a new mobile website (m.lids.com) which customers will now be redirected to when visiting lids.com on any smartphone. The mobile commerce site, which provides consumers with on-the-go ease to shop and browse the entire product selection of lids.com, was designed and developed by LIDS Sports Group.
“As the industry moves towards mobile platforms, a trend that is predicted to increase exponentially in the next few years, this was just a necessary move to stay in touch with our audience,” said LIDS Sports Group Director of E-Commerce Steve Wentzell.
It is estimated that mobile commerce sales will grow from $3 billion in 2010 to $31 billion in 2016, according to statistics reported by Forrester Research Inc. June 17, 2011. Mobile Commerce sales accounted for only one percent of e-commerce sales in 2010, but will increase to seven percent in 2016 (Source: Forrester Research Inc., sales of merchandise excluding digital content such as ring tones and mobile games).
“Consumers are becoming much more comfortable using their mobile phones to shop, and we’ve been tracking the sales that have taken place through our e-commerce site prior to this launch,” said Wentzell. “The mobile website is just another step we are taking to react to this increased demand, and to further enrich the customer’s shopping experience with LIDS.” The new “m-commerce” site has the same functionality, “look and feel,” and navigation that customers have come to expect from lids.com.
