Bluefly names a former Amazon executive as chief operating officer

Bluefly Inc. has hired Joseph Park as the web-only fashion retailer’s chief operating officer. Park joins Bluefly, No 173 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, from book publisher HarperCollins, where he was senior vice president of consumer digital products. There, Park co-founded Bookperk.com, which sells DVDs, signed copies of books and other merchandise, Bluefly says.

Park previously worked at Amazon.com Inc., starting in 2005, and was the online retailer’s head of new product development. While at Amazon, Park founded Askville.com, a social question-and-answer community, and contributed to the launch of Amazon’s product ad business. Amazon is No. 1 in Internet Retailer’s Top 500 Guide.

Before Amazon, Park worked in strategy for Microsoft Corp. and in 1997 co-founded Kosmo.com, which Bluefly says was the first web retailer to provide same-day, one-hour deliveries to shoppers.

 “Joseph brings a wealth of e-commerce and social media experience that, coupled with his demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit, will be very beneficial to Bluefly as we capitalize on the significant opportunity that exists for us to expand our share of the rapidly growing market for apparel and accessories online,” says CEO Melissa Payner.
