The Internet Retailer Online Retail Index of 25 e-commerce stocks advanced 0.79% last week, putting it slightly behind the broader stock market. In comparison, the Dow Jones Industrial Average moved up 0.84% and the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index advanced 1.1%.

The strong holiday season results—comScore says online retail sales in November and December jumped 12% from last year and MasterCard reported even stronger e-commerce numbers—contributed to Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian raising his projection for 2011 online spending growth to 12% from 8%. He sees that as positive for such e-commerce vendors as GSI Commerce and Digital River, both part of the Online Retail Index.

With the new year, there were two changes in the Online Retail Index. Leaving the index were technology provider ATG, which has been acquired by Oracle Corp., and e-retailer Vitacost.com, which is appealing a delisting notice from the NASDAQ exchange. NASDAQ has suspended trading in Vitacost.com's stock during the appeal process. NASDAQ issued the delisting notice last month after Vitacost.com delayed  filing a quarterly financial statement and reported problems with its reporting of transactions related to its September 2009 initial offering of stock.

Those companies have been replaced by online apparel retailer Bluefly, No. 163 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide and ValueClick, an online marketing company that includes the Commission Junction affiliate network, coupon site CouponMountain.com and behavioral targeting and comparison shopping properties.
