The retailer has introduced a free downloadable mobile application that lets iPhone, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile users get instant information about conditions at ski resorts and mountains across the globe.
Recreational Equipment Inc. wants skiers and snowboarders to not only rely on it for quality outdoors gear and apparel but also as a source on the latest snow conditions across the globe. So it’s using mobile technology to give customers the information they want, while at the same time reinforcing the REI brand in their minds and linking them to the REI online store.
The retailer has introduced a free downloadable mobile application that lets iPhone, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile users get instant information about conditions at ski resorts and mountains in the United States, Canada, Europe and elsewhere. The REI Snow Report also provides one-touch access to REI’s e-commerce site, which features winter sports products and more outdoors information.
“When temperatures drop or snow begins to fall, enthusiasts everywhere will know which of their favorite destinations to head to for the best conditions,” says Tom Vogl, vice president of marketing at REI, which uses technology from Zumobi, a mobile application developer. “The REI Snow Report is a handy resource for snow lovers to access information through a quick touch on their smartphone.”
