Internet continues to grow in domain name registrations, VeriSign says

Driven by registrations for .com and .net, the number of registered Internet domain names among top-level domains grew by 168 million in the second quarter, a 4% increase over the same period last year, VeriSign Inc. says.

 

Driven by registrations for .com and .net, the number of registered Internet domain names among top-level domains grew by 168 million in the second quarter, a 4% increase over the same period last year, VeriSign Inc. says.

Top-level domains include .com, .de (Germany), .cn, .net, .uk, .org, .info, .nl (The Netherlands), .eu (European Union) and .biz.

VeriSign noted particularly strong growth in Latin America, where the number of .com and .net domain name registrations grew 31% in the second quarter, compared to 11% growth for .com and .net worldwide.

VeriSign provides Internet infrastructure services and is the global registry for .com and .net domains.
