Hal Smith, former president of Bass Pro Shops, has been named president and CEO of multi-channel retailer Joe’s Sports & Outdoor and to a seat on the board of directors. He replaces Norm Daniels, who has been with the company for 42 years, and will remain on the board of the company based in Wilsonville, OR.

Besides his tenure at Bass Pro Shops, No. 78 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, Smith has held executive positions at several other retailers. He most recently was executive vice president of auto parts and repair chain Pep Boys.

Joe’s Sports & Outdoor operates 30 stores in the Northwest and is No. 341 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.

“I`m thrilled to be joining Joe`s Sports & Outdoor at this point in its evolution,” Smith says. “Norm and the team have done a great job of establishing a strong following throughout the Northwest, and we can now build on that foundation to take the company to a whole new level of solid growth.”

"It is exciting for us to hire a CEO with the expertise that Hal brings to the company,” Daniels says. “I look forward to working with him during the transition over the next several weeks and continuing my participation as a member of the board of directors."
