NetRatings Inc., an Internet media and market research firm, today filed patent infringement lawsuits against Coremetrics Inc. and Omniture Inc.
In the suit, filed in U.S. District for the District of Delaware, NetRatings alleges that web analytics firms Coremetrics and Omniture infringed on four patents owned or controlled by NetRatings.
A spokesman for Coremetrics declined to comment on the lawsuit, saying only that the company`s attorneys were reviewing the complaint. Omniture could not be reached for comment.
NetRatings’ patents relate to the collection, analysis and reporting of information concerning computer usage activity.
“NetRatings has a strong heritage of both developing and acquiring innovative technologies to support our leading Internet media and market research products, and we have invested a significant amount of time and capital in building a comprehensive patent portfolio,” William Pulver, president and CEO, said in a statement.
NetRatings markets its products under the Nielsen//NetRatings brand. Its product portfolio includes panel-based and site-centric Internet audience measurement services, online advertising intelligence, user lifestyle, demographic and product brand preferences data, Internet reach and frequency planning tools, and custom data, research and analysis.
