Both social networks today announced new tools that let e-retailers drive sales directly from their platforms.
Penney’s web sales were up 25% in April and for the quarter while total sales fell 3% in the quarter. Bluefly’s sales reached $2.6 million in the month.
April net sales at fashion retailer Bluefly Inc.’s Bluefly.com rose 16% in April, to more than $2.6 million from about $2.3 million a year ago, the company said today. New York-based Bluefly, one of the few remaining pure-play online retailers, specializes in selling designer brands at discount prices. Its April performance follows a first quarter during which its sales rose 8% to $8.25 million from $7.64 million a year earlier.
J. C. Penney Co. Inc.’s web-based sales rose by more than 25% for April and the quarter that ended April 26, the company reports, although it does not break out dollar sales for the channel. Total sales in the quarter were down 3% to $7.5 billion from $7.7 billion. Comparable department store sales for the quarter were down 4.9%.Total company revenue in April was down 3.3% to $2.38 billion from $2.46 billion. Comparable department store sales were down 6.9% in April.
In the quarter, sales at the company’s Eckerd’s drugstores were up 1.3% with comparable store sales down 1.1%. In April, drugstore sales were up 2.4% with comparable drugstore sales up 0.4%.
