Retailers have teased and rolled out online deals for days, even weeks, but the real Black Friday is here.
Throughout the year, Internet Retailer's editors keep an eye out for the retail web sites that are breaking new ground. That includes this year the first to integrate Facebook into their sites, to figure out the best ways to sell through online video, to provide new ways to navigate, and more. Every December we profile the 100 sites in 11 merchandising categories that demonstrate the imagination, flair, consumer insight and technology smarts that make great e-retailers great. Each profile highlights the innovations the featured web merchant introduced in the past year that earned it a place in our Hot 100 list, and draws out the lessons for other retailers. We'll also provide the vital statistics of each featured e-commerce site and list the vendors in 24 categories that helped that online retailer make its name.
Plus, this year's issue offers a big bonus section: The Top 10 mobile commerce initiatives. Mobile has emerged in 2010 as the big new idea in direct-to-consumer retailing, and hundreds of retailers are getting in on the action. This arena is still very new, which makes it all the more important to study the most outstanding m-commerce sites and apps. Many more retailers will be marketing to consumers through their mobile phones in the next year or so, and there will be much to learn from these 10 groundbreaking companies. As with our profiles of the top web sites, each mobile profile will explain what makes this mobile site or app hot, and what others can learn from the retailer's innovations.
