E-Retailing in 2016: A Preview Report

Quick Overview

The U.S. e-commerce market continues to grow at a steady pace and to account for a bigger share of all retail sales. With the exception of 2009 when the Great Recession held U.S. e-commerce growth down to 2%, the U.S. e-commerce market has grown by double digits for more than 20 years and by 15% or more in each of the past five years. As more shoppers use their desktop computers and Web-enabled mobile devices to make purchases online, e-commerce is steadily accounting for a bigger share of all U.S. e-retail sales, reaching an Internet Retailer-estimated 11.1% last year (excluding online sales of automobiles, sales in restaurants and fuel). But within that growth there are several trends that illustrate the tactics web merchants are adopting to survive and grow in a rapidly changing and highly competitive e-commerce environment. E-Retailing in 2016: A Preview Report showcases what the trends and strategies being used by North America’s Top 1000 web merchants are, as well as analyzes how they fared overall in 2015.
