The retailer revamped the app’s look and functionality based on the latest updates Apple released to its mobile operating system. It also added mobile-exclusive deals.
Known for its consumer electronics product assortment, e-retailer Newegg Inc. also stays abreast of technical advances in how it builds digital shopping tools for customers. Accordingly, the retailer launched a redesigned iPhone app to take advantage of new capabilities introduced in Apple Inc.’s iOS 7 mobile operating system, which debuted in September. Called Newegg Mobile 4.0, the app is available for free in the Apple App Store.
“All of the design updates of iOS 7 inspired the new version of this app,” says Soren Mills, chief marketing officer for Newegg North America. “We have a greater ability to focus on content and functionality by using the new themes of iOS 7.”
Newegg Mobile 4.0 allows customers to personalize their home pages and sign up to receive notifications on their iPhones when products they’ve liked become available or drop in price, the retailer says. New search and navigation features allow customers to sort items by category and deals, and to select multiple search filters at once. They can also compare products side by side. Product listings in the new app include more detailed images than the old one, specifications and more than 1.7 million consumer reviews, Mills says.
“IOS 7 is an elegant platform that opens up exciting design possibilities and our new app does an incredible job of getting the most from the platform,” he says. “Mobile has quickly evolved from a convenient companion of Newegg.com into a robust, standalone shopping platform that effortlessly connects our customers with the products they want.”
Along with the release of Newegg Mobile 4.0, Newegg has also begun offering a set of deals exclusive to mobile shoppers. In addition to browsing for mobile-only discounts, customers can set up alerts about “shell shocker deals” from the app, Mills says.
