Panasonic Corporation of North America announced last week the appointment of e-commerce and digital marketing veteran Julie Bauer as president of its consumer sales division, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company.

Bauer was a senior director at BestBuy.com, the e-commerce arm of Best Buy Co. Inc., No. 10 in the 2013 Internet Retailer Top 500, from 2002 to 2007, with responsibilities in such areas as site development and connecting the web, stores and call centers.

After leaving Best Buy, she worked for two years as vice president of multichannel commerce at the American Girl unit of Mattel Inc., then for the last two years was senior vice president of digital, marketing and global e-commerce at Guthy-Renker, a direct marketer of cosmetics and hair care products. Earlier in her career, she worked in a business-to-business setting as vice president of digital and online marketing services at Cullinan Corp., which went out of business in 2002.

"Julie Bauer comes to Panasonic as a marketing and technology leader with particular expertise in direct marketing, retail and online commerce," says Panasonic Corporation of North America chairman & CEO Joseph M. Taylor.  "She has the ability to manage Panasonic's broad array of consumer products through our distribution channels and I'm confident that she will ensure we achieve our strategic objectives."

"Panasonic has been an innovator in the consumer electronics sector for years and we have the strong brand, unique products and great people to further extend the company's success," Bauer says.

Panasonic is No. 217 in the Top 500.
