Shipping software vendor ShipStation hires its first president and CEO

Shipping software vendor ShipStation has hired Nathan Jones as its first president and CEO. The vendor’s co-founders, Jason Hodges and Byron Weir, previously led the company.

ShipStation, which launched in 2010, provides an Internet-hosted software-as-a-service shipping system. The vendor designs its tools to integrate with a retailer’s e-commerce site—or multiple sites including e-marketplaces and comparison shopping engines that a retailer might sell through. It combines all of a retailer’s orders into a single system to help retailers manage their shipping orders.

Jones previously worked as president of Journey Education Marketing Inc., a reseller of software for students, faculty and schools, which Digital River Education Services Inc. bought in 2010. Before that, he was founder and CEO of education products e-retailer Academic SuperStore, which Journey Education Marketing acquired in 2009, ShipStation says.

Jones says he will lean on his own e-commerce experiences dealing with shipping issues to help ShipStation develop tools to make retailers’ fulfillment processes easier.

“I made a lot of mistakes along the way and learned a tremendous amount in the process,” he says. “I am excited to be part of a company that gives me a platform to help share that experience. With ShipStation, we can help other entrepreneurs avoid the pitfalls of building a shipping solution so they can focus on their products and their customers as they grow.”

Jones’s e-commerce knowledge and experience will help him grow ShipStation’s business, says Hodges. “His results-oriented approach, passion, and ability to think both analytically and strategically will play a crucial role in expanding our track record of shipping innovation and solutions, while helping our company continue to grow,” he says.
