Adidas grows its international e-commerce presence

The retailer and manufacturer opens more than a dozen new e-commerce sites worldwide.

Sporting goods retailer and manufacturer the Adidas Group launched more than a dozen e-commerce sites in Russia, Europe, Canada and South America in the past year on a single e-commerce platform from Demandware Inc.

The vendor’s Internet-based software let Adidas launch multiple sites off a single architecture. The software offered the flexibility for each site’s operators to tweak the details of their sites, such as allowing transactions in their local currencies, the retailer says.

“We needed an e-commerce platform and partner that could help us move swiftly to reach new markets without compromising quality,” says Harm Ohlmeyer, chief e-commerce officer for the Adidas Group.  “In close cooperation with Demandware, we were able to execute a rollout of this size within just one year.”

Adidas worked with Astound Commerce to build the sites. It plans to continue expanding its international e-commerce presences with the platform in the coming years, it says, though it didn’t specify where it will be going next.

Germany-based Adidas Group’s brands include Adidas, Reebok, TaylorMade, Rockport and Reebok-CCM Hockey. It operates Adidas America Inc., No. 212 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, and Adidas AG, No. 103 in the Internet Retailer Europe 400.
