Security certificate vendor GlobalSign adds site acceleration services from CloudFlare.

GlobalSign, a provider of secure socket layer (SSL) certificates for web sites, has added services from CloudFlare Inc. to help speed the page load times of its clients’ secured pages. CloudFlare is a vendor of web site acceleration and security services.
SSL-secured pages, such as payment and checkout pages, typically load more slowly than unsecured pages. That’s because SSL-secured pages are redirected to another server that validates the security status of that page. GlobalSign says the acceleration service provided by CloudFlare will help load pages six times faster than before. The acceleration service comes free of charge to GlobalSign clients, which include AquinasandMe.com, No. 959 in Internet Retailer’s Second 500 Guide.
The secured web pages can load faster than before because page verification requests will route to a data center located near the consumer making the page request, making the round-trip geographically as short as possible and cutting the time it takes to transmit and render the data. CloudFlare has 23 data centers around the world.
“The combination of our technology and GlobalSign’s approach to SSL will allow both GlobalSign and CloudFlore customers to stay ahead of their competition when it comes to providing a secure, outstanding and fast users experience,” says Matthew Prince, cofounder and CEO of CloudFlare.
