Shoe retailer Puma hires a global director of e-commerce

Tom Davis comes from a similar position at Kenneth Cole.

Puma AG, a German-based manufacturer and online retailer of athletic shoes, has hired Tom Davis as its global director of e-commerce. He starts the job on Jan. 3.

Davis comes from Kenneth Cole Productions Inc., No. 402 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide. He has worked at the multichannel apparel retailer as vice president of e-commerce since August 2009.

Prior to that, he was e-commerce director for apparel company Tommy Hilfiger, where he started in April 2007. He also worked as senior manager for e-commerce marketing for Sirius Satellite Radio and director of online marketing for Giftcertificates.com.



"Tom has a number of skills that we valued," says Sergio Bucher, the company's head of global retail. "Among those that make a difference  are his balance between technical skills and creative and marketing skills. He also has a strong entrepreneurial spirit that blends very well with the Puma culture."

Puma's previous head of global e-commerce was basically a "one-man show" based in Germany, says Bucher. He says Davis will work out of the shoe company’s Boston office to build the global e-commerce team.

"It will provide for a closer integration with the digital marketing team, which is located in Boston," Bucher says. "Also, we will start setting up a global e-commerce team around Tom in Boston. This team will take over several areas of responsibility and will provide a platform for e-commerce to develop in all major countries in the world."

Gene Manheim, managing director of Herbert Mines Associates who leads the recruiting firm’s e-commerce practice, conducted the Puma search.
