The launch anticipates the holiday shopping season.
Usablenet, a leading provider of mobile Web, mobile applications, kiosk, and assistive solutions for over 300 clients, today announced that the company is launching 32 mobile websites and features in anticipation of the 2010 holiday season. Among these end-of-year launches are 16 retail, 3 auto and transportation, 5 health, 4 self-service, and 4 travel companies, including Bluefly.com, Lands End, Dell, Neiman Marcus Christmas Book, CVS Flu Shot Scheduler, JCPenney, and Tesco Direct. Additionally, Usablenet anticipates 16 more mobile launches by the end of the year.
According to Deloitte’s 2010 Holiday Survey, nearly one out of five shoppers plan to use their mobile phones during the holiday shopping process. Among those consumers, half will use smartphones to compare prices or identify store locations, and nearly half plan to search for product information, shop, or read reviews. To capitalize on the surge in mobile Web usage, retailers are eager to optimize their mobile commerce channels by providing customers with an easier holiday shopping experience and maximizing a powerful supplementary sales channel.
“This year we have seen a significant focus in Q3 and Q4 from retailers, airlines, and hotels to optimize on mobile in anticipation of a busy shopping and traveling period,” said Nick Taylor, President of Usablenet. “Just as the Web offered customers a more relaxed environment in which to purchase gifts or score holiday deals, now too mobile presents an even easier, pocketsize opportunity for brands to connect with their customers wherever they may be. By helping our clients extend their brands onto mobile, we are supporting on-the-go shopping and a more efficient in-store retail experience that enables users to compare prices and products, browse items in other departments, purchase out-of-stock items, and more.”
In addition to new mobile launches by Usablenet, a portion of their existing retail clients are implementing new features, including PayPal functionality, enhanced checkout, store inventory, kiosk solution, or registries, in time for the holidays. Notably, Usablenet has seen a demand for mobile wishlists and My Favorites lists – launched by clients such as Asos.com, REI, Chico’s, American Eagle, Crate & Barrel, among others – to encourage customers to browse and request gift items for themselves or from friends and family.
“Each year, we see a significant increase in mobile traffic around the holidays,” said Nick Taylor. “Last year, Usablenet noted an approximate 200% leap in mobile traffic throughout Black Friday weekend and we expect similar trends in 2010. Brands continue to embrace mobile strategies as a means to extend their sales channels and drive user traffic, signified by the mobile websites Usablenet powers increasing from 112 to 178 this year.”
