The new site enables furniture shoppers to buy rugs with a few clicks.
Rugs Direct, a multichannel retailer of area rugs, has created a new online store for Bari Furniture that will sell merchandise from Rugs Direct. The Bari Furniture Rug Gallery will offer more than 70,000 area rugs for sale.
Rugs Direct, No. 349 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, designed the e-commerce site, Rugs.BariFurniture.com. The new online store has a similar look and functionality of Bari’s main web store, BariLeatherFurniture.com.
“We created the new site at no charge, plus we handle all the order processing, customer service, fulfillment and returns, and then send Bari Furniture a commission check every month,” says Randy Kremer, president of Rugs Direct. He did not divulge the commission rate.
“We’ve been looking for an easy, inexpensive way to expand our product line beyond furniture for some time,” says Tom Tilaro, president of Bari Furniture.
Consumers shopping at the Bari Furniture Rug Gallery can select from such categories as contemporary, traditional, casual, southwestern and eco-friendly. Consumers make their selections from tabs at the top of the web page that look like the tabs at Bari’s main site. Consumers at the main site can select the rugs tab to reach the new site.
“We developed the entire program in-house,” a Rugs Direct spokesman says. “We are using Omniture for tracking and analytics, but the platform and technology are home-grown.” He adds that this deal marks the first time Bari has ventured outside of furniture.
Rugs Direct has struck two other deals with outside retailers. In January, the retailer began selling on its site, Rugs-Direct.com, products from Blinds.com. Products include blinds, shades and drapes. That followed a deal with art supplier Metaverse that enables consumers to buy art from Rugs-Direct.com.
