Blinds.com is letting in global e-commerce by allowing customers to ship products to more than 220 countries. The web-only custom window coverings retailer has integrated Bongo International LLC’s BongoUS package-forwarding service into its checkout process.
Using technology that can detect the IP address-and thus location-of visitors to its site, Blinds.com, No. 202 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, can redirect or restrict traffic based on a customer’s country of origin. That allows the company to tailor its service and product offerings based on the country the consumer is coming from.
When international shoppers check out at Blinds.com, they can opt to click on an international shipping button. An overlay window - actually a web page hosted by BongoUS.com - appears prompting them to open a BongoUS account and create a shipping address. The Bongo service provides the address to its Bridgeport, CT, warehouse and a unique suite number. After closing the window, shoppers then enter the Bridgeport shipping address and pay for the Blinds.com merchandise and domestic shipping.
A shopper then goes to BongoUS.com to add a residential address and payment information to the account, which BongoUS charges for international shipping. When the package arrives, the customer pays the carrier any tariffs, duties and taxes. Customers also can choose to ship merchandise from multiple retailers in one shipment.
