John Haugh, who earlier this decade expanded the operations of M&M’s World as president of Mars Retail Group, has been named president and chief marketing and merchandising officer of multichannel retailer Build-a-Bear Workshop.
John Haugh, who earlier this decade expanded the operations of M&M;’s World as president of Mars Retail Group, has been named president and chief marketing and merchandising officer of multichannel retailer Build-a-Bear Workshop Inc. The retailer also named Tina Klocke head of both store operations and corporate finance.
“With Tina leading our store teams and John heading up marketing, merchandising and strategic planning, our management team is fully aligned to work collaboratively to manage our business as we strengthen our entertainment offerings, including Buildabearville.com,” Clark says. Buildabearville.com is a web site that lets kids play computer games with characters akin to the stuffed animals they’ve bought in Build-A-Bear stores. Haugh will lead the Build-A-Bear Workshop marketing, merchandising and strategic planning teams and support functions. “John has a tremendous track record of brand building and a unique blend of marketing, merchandising, product development and licensing experience that spans the retail, hospitality, entertainment, and consumer products industries,” Clark says. “We’ve created this new position, combining the role of president with leadership of our marketing, merchandising and strategic planning teams, to reflect John’s role in leading our intensified company-wide focus on driving sales growth through results oriented multi-channel brand-building strategies.”
Haugh most recently served as president of It’s Sugar LLC, a candy and confectionery retailer. From 2004 to through 2007, he was president of Mars Retail Group, where he grew the M&M;’s World candy business while leading all retail operations of Mars Inc.
Prior to Mars, Haugh was chief marketing officer and senior vice president of worldwide business development at Payless ShoeSource Inc., No. 275 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide. He has also served as executive vice president, marketing and sales for Universal Studios Inc. and in marketing and sales positions at General Mills Inc.
Klocke joined Build-a-Bear in 1997 as chief financial officer, a position she retains while taking on the additional duties of chief of store operations. Prior to Build-a-Bear, Klocke was the financial controller at manufacturer Clayton Corp., where she supervised all accounting, finance and human resource operations. Klocke, who is a certified public accountant, has also worked as a controller for Love Real Estate Co. She started her career at accounting firm Ernst & Young LLP.
