Online pet product retailer Total Pet Supply launched its e-commerce site just last year. As a new company, it’s open to trying new ways to ramp up business, and like all e-retailers it would like to save money on the interchange fees it incurs from credit card companies for each card transaction. The company found help on both counts from alternative payment provider eBillme.
About 10% of Total Pet Supply shoppers are using eBillme, says Mandeep Khara, internet marketing manager for Total Pet Supply. The system allows consumers to pay for purchases online through their checking accounts.
Consumers may be using the system because they prefer not to use credit, but they also might be tempted to use the service because of the promotions eBillme offers, Khara says.“They offer a great promo. For all orders over $90 they offer $10 off,“ Khara says. Total Pet Supply benefits from lower transaction fees-less than 2% of each eBillme transaction compared to an average of about 2.5% for card purchases, Khara says.
Consumers who choose eBillme at checkout on participating merchant sites receive an e-mail invoice confirming the purchase. The consumer then pays the bill from an online bank account.
Total Pet Supply also offers Google Checkout as a payment option.
