The first-ever Global eCommerce Summit will take place Oct. 27-29 in Amsterdam. Shop.org is working with the European eCommerce and Mail Order Trade Association on the event.
Shop.org, a Washington-based trade group for online retailers, has announced plans for its first conference in Europe, the Global eCommerce Summit, which will take place in Amsterdam Oct. 27-29. Shop.org is working with the European eCommerce and Mail Order Trade Association on the event.
“The vision of Shop.org is to be the world’s leading membership community for digital retail,” says Scott Silverman, executive director. “Online retail is happening across the globe and we wanted to take that next step to help facilitate more international sharing of best practices and information.” Shop.org is the e-retail arm of the National Retail Federation.
Shop.org’s partner in the event, the European eCommerce and Mail Order Trade Association, is an umbrella organization of 23 national retailer associations from 22 countries. Its main function is to lobby on behalf of direct marketers before European Union agencies, Silverman says.
“Shoppers around the world are quickly embracing the convenience, selection and cost-savings of online retail,” says Dieter Junghans, chairman of the European trade association. “Sharing ideas and experiences on these issues is a necessity when we want to meet the needs of our future global customers.”
Among the speakers on the agenda will be Angela Kapp, senior vice president of Estee Lauder Companies; Monica Luechtefeld, executive vice president of Office Depot Inc.; and Paul Nijhof, CEO of Dutch mail-order and online retailer Wehkamp. Silverman says he expects 300 to 400 retailers will attend, most of them from Europe.
