End-to-End Solution Allows Family Dollar To OfferPayment Options, EBT and PrePaid Telco All At The Point Of Sale
SANTA CLARA, Calif., - January 12, 2004 -- VeriFone, Inc., the world`s leading provider of payment solutions, announced today leading discount retailer Family Dollar has successfully installed over 10,000 VeriFone Omni 3750 payment terminals in over 5,000 locations throughout the United States.
VeriFone partnered with retail systems integrator Direct Source to deliver a true end-to-end payment solution for the North Carolina-based retailer, which included application development, software design and installation, project management and hardware deployment.
Family Dollar selected VeriFone`s Omni 3750 payment terminal following a detailed analysis by the POS team. The terminal is certified by Concord EFS, meets the latest Triple DES security standards, and is smart card ready. Also, the solution enables immediate acceptance of electronic payments and the activation of prepaid phone cards.
The ability to provide Family Dollar customers with value-added services was one of the keys to the VeriFone win. Atlanta-based PRE Solutions, Inc., is providing prepaid telecom services directly from the VeriFone Omni 3750 payment terminals.
VeriFone and Direct Source delivered on an aggressive rollout schedule. All 10,000 terminals and back office systems were successfully installed and running in just under eight weeks, allowing Family Dollar to meet the 2003 holiday rush with time to spare.
"One reason why the Omni 3750 has become the de facto standard for payment terminal is its ease of installation, as is proven by the swift rollout at Family Dollar," said Scott Tubbs, retail director for VeriFone. "This decreased time to market, combined with multi-application abilities and modular communication ports almost make this terminal a revenue generator instead of a cost. Family Dollar is really taking advantage of everything the Omni 3750 can do."
In fact, The VeriFone Omni 3750 was designed from the outset to become the de facto standard in payment terminals. Unique features the Omni 3750 include:
-- Modular design, allowing for "swap-out" capabilities of different communications modalities, including 14.4kbps dial-up, SSL-protected broadband DSL/cable, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet.
-- Unmatched security protocol design, including EMV Level 1 and Level 2 type approvals, Triple DES and PED certifications and file authentication.
-- The industry`s most powerful chip set, a 32-bit processor, coupled with 3MB of memory, easily managing multi-application functionality
-- Flexible libraries and multi-application support, providing easy and secure methods to securely add value-added applications like prepaid cellular, bypassing the need for recertification.
