CHICAGO – (September 16, 2003) – Pindar Systems, the leader in product content management and delivery for multi-channel commerce, announces the availability of Agility™ 2.1, an update to its successful program that adds new enterprise platform and application support, Java and Web ease-of-use features, and workflow/functionality enhancements.

Agility 2.1 is the most recent update to the Agility software, which is leading the field in true integration of product information and image assets across both print and online channels. The release of this product was successfully built on the success of Pindar Systems’ Agility Java-based, J2EE-compliant Web application server technology, which now features one of the most powerful and flexible enterprise integration and application sets on the content management market.

Pioneering full support for Adobe’s fast-growing InDesign™ 2.0 desktop publishing system, Agility 2.1 supports the popular QuarkXpress™ desktop publishing product. IBM’s Websphere™ and BEA’s WebLogic™ application servers are supported as well as IBM’s DB2, Oracle 9i and MS SQL Server 2000 database products. Agility 2.1 also now runs on the UNIX AIX/Solaris platforms in addition to Microsoft Windows 2000.

"With its robust enterprise platform and application support, Agility 2.1 meets the IT requirements of virtually any business, whether they sell directly to consumers, to distribution partners, or to business end-users," said Barry Wooffitt, Pindar Systems Vice President of Product Development.

"The true differentiator for Agility 2.1, however, is its ability to power multi-channel commerce," Wooffitt said. "Agility fully integrates the management and delivery of content through both print and electronic channels to drive commerce. Not so with many content management solutions born in the Internet world, which are more at home with unstructured data or come to the field from unrelated content management disciplines. And likewise not with traditional catalogue management systems, which are geared primarily to feeding print design/production systems."

Pindar Systems also has added to Agility easy-to-use interfaces for its Java and Web clients, and other productivity features. New workflow enhancements include event triggering on workflow state changes, auto-advance of "child" states, defined "next states," and extended auto-transition rules. New functionality features include check-in and check-out for documents and digital media assets, new capabilities for automating the creation of complex tables, and automated Enterprise Java Beans functionality.

Together with its open Web architecture, Agility 2.1’s unique and almost infinitely flexible object-based EDGE™ data management technology enables unmatched out-of-the-box capabilities to manage media assets, product information and assortments, and marketing promotions. EDGE allows Agility users to link objects, the basic building blocks of the data structure, into an infinite variety of taxonomies. Each object can include an unlimited number of attributes.

Using EDGE, together with Agility 2’s numerous merchandising, creative, production and collaboration tools, businesses can create an unlimited number of print and online sales vehicles and promotions based on geography, industry, brand, channel, customer type and more. Agility 2’s Web-based remote connectivity for translators speeds the most complex multi-lingual, multi-version projects.

For businesses that sell directly to consumers, Agility 2 provides extensive brand asset management capabilities, collaborative online "whiteboarding" to speed the most creative designs, as well as support for leading third-party forecasting/analytical tools and customer-facing e-commerce systems.

Agility 2 also offers easy-to-use and manage Web-based supply chain commerce resources, whether it’s supporting sell-side partners with syndicated targeted catalogs or giving buy-side suppliers managed links into the system to import their own product descriptions and images.

Pindar Systems has built into the Agility 2 platform the scalability and flexibility to fit the size and workflow regimen of virtually any business: powerful administration tools to manage system set-up, add users and grant object-level and feature access rights; J2EE compliance and open standards support for in-house developers to easily create system extensions; and seamless integration with industry-leading enterprise database, ERP, CRM and e-commerce systems.

Despite its scope, Agility is designed for rapid deployment, thanks to its Web architecture, open standards, intuitive graphical interface, and Pindar Systems’ Partners program, which matches customer requirements with a range of skilled consultancy and implementation specialists. In addition, a powerful suite of optional productivity-enhancing modules allows each business to tailor Agility 2 to its exact needs.

Since its launch in Spring 2001, Agility already has won deployment commitments from an impressive list of blue chip customers, including global scientific equipment and supplies distributor Fisher Scientific, leading UK retailers Littlewoods and John Lewis Direct, French holiday company Club Med, German-based leader in portable measuring tools Testo, and U.S. electronics distributor Allied Electronics and many others. Agility 2 is currently in active installation at 6 customers.
