International Hardware Co-op to Implement Comprehensive Replenishment Toolset

ATLANTA (August 10, 2001) -- Do it Best Corp., a leading international member-owned hardware, lumber, and building materials cooperative, has chosen to implement a comprehensive inventory management solution from E3 Corporation which includes the company’s flagship product for distribution centers (DCs), E3TRIM®. Founded in 1945 as Hardware Wholesalers, Inc. (HWI), Do it Best Corp. boasts 4,400 independently owned stores in the U.S. and 42 other countries, making it one of the largest hardware cooperatives in the world. Each of these stores is serviced from one of seven DCs across the U.S. The company chose E3, a world leader in inventory management and Web-based collaborative solutions, to provide a solution that will enable Do it Best Corp. to continue its decades of growth, meet high standards of customer service, and improve efficiency within its existing distribution infrastructure.

"We studied a number of other vendors’ solutions, but E3 was the only company that brought all of the pieces together for a complete replenishment toolset," said Do it Best Corp. Vice President of Hardware Products Ed Zoller. "Our requirements include a tremendous amount of functionality today and the ability to expand with our growing business in the future -- as well as the tools to help fuel that expansion. Because of E3’s experience in our industry and their successes with numerous other wholesalers and retailers, we felt confident that they could satisfy virtually all of our requirements."

Do it Best Corp. will implement the E3 True Replenishment for Inventory Management (E3TRIM®) system, designed for the demanding inventory management needs of distribution centers. The E3TRIM system offers wholesalers and retailers the information, control, and tools to cooperate with suppliers by providing accurate demand and order projections, stable order patterns, and, where appropriate, information regarding promotional activity and inventory levels. The E3TRIM system provides the ability to order in the most economic order cycle, as well as plan and execute promotions and forward buy opportunities in order to add real bottom-line profitability.

"We’re looking forward to using the E3 system because it will allow us to go beyond current forecasting techniques and use some very advanced economic analysis tools to maximize our return on inventory investment," added Zoller. "In the future, we look forward to expanding the solution into a collaborative commerce program that will help us drive this ROI value throughout our supply chain."

According to E3 Corporation Vice President of Business Development David Johnston, "The selection by an industry leader like Do it Best Corp. is proof positive that E3’s inventory management solutions are the cream of the crop. A company like Do it Best Corp., which has been in business since the end of World War II and services stores around the world, doesn’t go into a new technology implementation lightly. Their exhaustive research led them to the same conclusion that leaders in many industries are reaching: E3’s wholesale and retail replenishment solutions are the best in the industry."
