The apparel and accessories retailers in this year's Hot 100 are thriving on the web thanks to the creative, and often unconventional, approaches they've taken to technology, design and service.

Why They're Hot: This apparel retailer continues to lead in its use of images and social media. It is active on eight social media channels, and its Urban On smartphone apps consolidate social feeds and mix in product information. The e-retailer encourages shoppers to share photos of themselves wearing its apparel and accessories, and when a visitor hovers over an image in the app she sees how many others have followed it and a button to “Shop It.” What could be a better endorsement than satisfied customers modeling their purchases? Over the last year, the merchant has more than doubled its followers on Instagram to more than 2.1 million. Urban Outfitters also operates a YouTube video channel that features a series of Dreamers & Doers, showcasing artisans discussing their home décor and apparel designs.
