E-retailers must focus on their specific goals and examine a vendor’s reputation and market expertise, not referrals.
Jon Barker wins promotion from president after more than five years as chief operating officer.
Home products e-retailer Hayneedle Inc. has promoted president Jon Barker to CEO. Hayneedle says Barker takes over from Doug Nielsen, who in 2010 became president and CEO. Nielsen will continue as Hayneedle’s board chairman.
Hayneedle is No. 84 in the Internet Retailer 2013 Top 500 Guide.
“We have incredible talent in our organization and Jon is an exceptional leader,” Nielsen says. “I am truly excited to have him lead our company during our next phase of growth.”
Hayneedle hired Barker in July 2008 as chief operating officer, a job he held until December 2013, according to his LinkedIn profile. Hayneedle credits him with “helping to build Hayneedle’s top-rated customer care center and an industry-leading supply chain operation with the capability to deliver products in two days or less to 90% of the country.”
Barker previously worked as senior vice president, distribution and logistics, for catalog and web retailer Cornerstone Brands Inc., part of HSN Inc., which is No. 24 in the Top 500. Before that, he worked in business development for United Parcel Service.
