Target Australia hires an e-commerce exec as it expands online
Phil Wade, who ran T.K. Maxx online in the U.K., becomes marketing director.
Target Australia, a retail chain mass merchant, has hired Phil Wade as its marketing director.
Target Australia is owned by Wesfarmers, parent company to Coles Group Ltd., which is ranked No. 64 in Internet Retailer’s Asia 500. Target Australia is not affiliated with Target Corp., the U.S. mass merchant.
Wade starts his new job in December. He leads e-commerce for T.K. Maxx, the U.K. division of the TJX Companies, working as vice president of marketing, e-commerce, loyalty and customer relationship management. In the United States TJX Companies operates discount retail chains including T.J. Maxx and HomeGoods. The U.K.-based T.K. Maxx has operated as an e-commerce site since 2009, unlike its U.S. counterparts. T.J. Maxx relaunched e-commerce last month after only selling in stores since shuttering its last e-commerce site more than six years ago.
Prior to T.K. Maxx, Wade worked at Home Retail Group, No. 4 in the Europe 500, and at consumer packaged goods manufacturer Unilever. Target says it wants to grow its e-commerce offerings.
