57.5% of all shoppers use the omnichannel service, but only 31.6% describe it as being a smooth process, according to a new report.
The chain retailer opens a technology office to support Kohls.com development.
Kohl’s Corp. has opened a technology development office in Silicon Valley charged with supporting the growth of Kohls.com and the chain retailer’s online, store and mobile initiatives.
The 52,000 square-foot office in Milpitas, CA, will have 30 employees initially, Kohl’s says. The retailer’s corporate headquarters is in Menomonee Falls, WI.
“We are excited to have a presence in one of the country’s leading technology hubs and increased proximity to our partners and talent on the West Coast who can help bring our initiatives to life,” says Kevin Mansell, Kohl’s chairman, president and CEO.
Kohl’s previously announced that it will relaunch Kohls.com on an e-commerce platform from Oracle Corp. this summer. It will also test a mobile payment acceptance technology in stores later this year. In 2012, Kohl’s generated $1.43 billion in sales on the web, up 41.6% from $1.01 billion in 2011. It is No. 28 in Internet Retailer’s Top 500 Guide.
“We have made significant investments in our IT and omnichannel initiatives to ensure we have the platforms, technology and tools to allow customers to shop when they want and from where they want,” Mansell says.
Kohl’s also says it will continue to expand operations in its other corporate offices, including in New York and Santa Monica, CA.
