The comiXology tablet and smartphone apps are strikingly vibrant in their presentation of the digital comic books and graphic novels that rabid fans devour. Shoppers can find  comics in nine different ways, by publisher, by genre, and so forth. “The design and granularity of our search and browsing functionality make it more effective for consumers to find books they are interested in and find new books they didn’t know they were interested in,” says cofounder John D. Roberts. “As we are about to crest 100 million downloads, it’s pretty clear we made the right choices here.” And comiXology makes buying easy by integrating iTunes as the apps’ payment mechanism, so all a customer must do is enter his iTunes password when prompted and a purchase is complete.
