Retailers shift their ad spending from TV, radio and print ads to digital ads.

Zmags, which develops digital catalogs for retailers and brands including Musician’s Friend and Kenneth Cole, has received $6 million in venture capital to support its work in designing e-commerce sites for tablet computers and other mobile devices.
“The massive adoption of tablets has amplified demand for our offering, as consumers increasingly engage with their favorite retailers and brands on this personal device,” says Scott Bleczinski, president of Zmags. “This investment is validation of the huge market opportunity for a unique platform like ours.”
Portland, ME-based North Atlantic Capital led the investment. David Coit, managing director of North Atlantic, is joining Zmags’ board of directors.
Prior Zmags investors including OpenView Venture Partners and NorthCap Partners also provided funding. The investment brings Zmags’ total venture funding to $18 million.
“We were impressed with Zmags’ commitment to helping retailers engage audiences that are shopping and consuming content in new ways, particularly through smartphones and tablet devices,” Coit says.
“Boston-based Zmags signed 74 accounts in the third quarter, representing a 28% increase in new clients compared with the same period last year, Zmags says. It didn’t name the new clients. In addition to musical instruments retailer Musician’s Friend Inc. and fashion apparel and timepiece brand Kenneth Cole Productions Inc., Zmags clients include drug store chain CVS Caremark Corp., the British mass merchant Tesco Plc and the computer maker Lenovo.
