Sociomantic Labs Has a New CEO

Jason Kelly takes over at the global demand-side platform delivering real-time bidding solutions for e-commerce advertisers around the world.

New York and Berlin, September 10, 2012 – Sociomantic Labs, the Berlin-based pioneer of real-time bidding (RTB) technologies for eCommerce advertisers, today announced that Jason Kelly has been named its new CEO as the company launches in North America.  Mr. Kelly, the former Chief Revenue Officer at Admeld who had been focused on the company’s integration after its acquisition by Google, takes the reins of Sociomantic as the company has dramatically increased its global footprint, doubling its impressions volume on a quarterly basis for the past six quarters.

As it has grown in the EU and worldwide, Sociomantic has also opened offices in Moscow, Russia and São Paulo, Brazil this month, making it the first major RTB technology player conducting significant business in these countries.

“Since our founding in Berlin in 2009, we’ve grown from our first RTB campaigns in our home market to running campaigns in more than 45 markets across six continents.  We’ve driven our scale through technology and now that we are expanding globally and into the largest display market, we’re truly excited to have someone of Jason’s caliber at the helm,” said Thomas Brandhoff, co-founder of Sociomantic.  “We had twenty employees at the end of the last business year and will be approaching 100 by the end of this one.  So far we’ve been fortunate enough to achieve this scale based purely on organic growth with no outside investment, in large part to our core technology infrastructure and capability.  We’re looking forward to seeing what Jason’s broad experience and leadership in the market will do for us within North America and globally.”

Real Time Bidding and programmatic retargeting has dramatically altered the display landscape in North America and Europe, enabling marketers to leverage scale and precision to direct their campaigns at specific audiences throughout the web.  Research firm Park Associates recently projected that the RTB market in North America will exceed $7B by 2016, and others have predicted similar growth curves in the EU and Asia.  Taking into account the small media segment represented by RTB just two years ago, and the sustained growth of eCommerce, with projections that it will exceed $1.25 trillion globally in 2013, Sociomantic’s first-mover advantage in new markets favorably positions the company to take advantage of this enormous opportunity.

Founded in Berlin in 2009, sociomantic was the first demand-side platform (DSP) to develop RTB technologies specifically geared towards the needs of eCommerce advertisers. The company’s commitment to innovation and development of proprietary technologies paired with best-in-class local service and support has resulted in a client retention rate of 95% since its inception.

Mr. Kelly has played a visible, leading role in RTB and media circles since leaving Time Inc. as VP, Digital Strategy and Revenue Management for Admeld, where he drove the company’s relationships and monetization for hundreds of publishers and participated in the widely reported acquisition by Google last year.   At Google, he was focused on the preservation and maintenance of these publisher relationships post-acquisition and the integration of Admeld into the Google technology stack.  Prior to his term at Time Inc., Mr. Kelly worked within Advisory Services for Rapt for two years, through its acquisition by Microsoft in 2008. Before entering the interactive media industry, Mr. Kelly was responsible for eCommerce related initiatives including online distribution, sales and revenue management for Virgin America and Frontier Airlines among other carriers within commercial aviation.

I’m thrilled to be part of this company, and looking forward to working with Thomas and the tremendously talented team,” said Mr. Kelly.  “I was intrigued when I was first introduced to the company because I had been following their dramatic growth closely.  After meeting the founders and seeing firsthand how Sociomantic's development team continues to drive technology to the benefit of our clients, I felt compelled to join.  We’re looking forward to accelerating this growth further and providing our unparalleled performance capabilities both here in the US and globally.
