Grainger Integrates Dragon Mobile SDK, Enabling Consumers to Quickly and Easily Find and Access Grainger’s 900,000 Maintenance, Repair and Operating Products – Just by Speaking
Burlington, Mass. – September 10, 2012 – Nuance Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN) today announced that its Dragon voice recognition technology is powering the voice search feature for Grainger’s new mobile app for iOS and Android devices. Grainger, North America’s leading broad line supplier of maintenance, repair and operating (MRO) products, integrated Nuance’s voice recognition via the Dragon Mobile SDK as part of the NDEV Mobile developer program.
Grainger’s mobile app offers customers access to the company’s more than 900,000 products, making it even easier for MRO professionals to search for products, check product availability and quickly order products while on the go. By integrating Nuance’s Dragon voice recognition, Grainger customers can quickly and easily search Grainger’s diverse products to find exactly what they need, when and where they need it.
“We find that many people work away from their desks. By allowing these customers access to Grainger’s products anytime and anywhere, Grainger’s mobile technology helps them work more efficiently,” said Geoffrey Robertson, Grainger Vice President of eCommerce Strategy and Planning. “With voice search, we are offering our customers another option to quickly find the product they need.”
“The mobile user experience must be about usability and convenience,” said Matt Revis, vice president and general manager, handset business, Nuance Mobile. “The NDEV Mobile developer program gives Grainger the ability to further differentiate their unique mobile experience with the power and productivity made possible by Dragon.”
The Grainger mobile app is currently available for free in the Apple App Store for the iPhone, iPad and iPhone touch, and on Google Play for Android devices.
Nuance’s Dragon Mobile SDK, available as part of the NDEV Mobile developer program, lets developers rapidly bring voice-enabled apps to market with access to Nuance’s powerful Dragon voice recognition and text-to-speech technology for any application on Android, iOS, Windows Phone 7, and virtually any platform via an HTTP Web services interface. The Dragon Mobile SDK powers the voice recognition and text-to-speech capabilities of some of the most popular apps on the market, including Kraft Foods’ iFood Assistant, Ask for iPhone, Merriam-Webster, Dictionary.com, OnStar RemoteLink, iTranslate, Bon’App, Snapguide, Coupons.com Incorporated’s Grocery iQ, PlaySay and more.
