Consumers spent more than 1 billion hours watching Netflix Inc.’s online programming in June, setting a record, according to CEO Reed Hastings’ post on Facebook last week.

That post elicited a positive reaction from investors, says Colin Sebastian, senior research analyst, Internet and interactive entertainment, at investment banking firm Robert W. Baird & Co. “Netflix was up because the CEO made positive comments on his Facebook page,” Sebastian says.

Netflix’s stock soared 19.6%, closing at $81.89 on Friday, July 6, compared with $68.49 on June 29. It led last week’s index. No other stock posted a double-digit increase.

Meanwhile, daily deal provider Groupon Inc. had the biggest loss for the week, losing 20.6%.

Netflix is No. 8 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 guide.
