In its first few months, Mobile Ticket has surpassed expectations and has seen up to 50% of Fandango fans using the program at theaters that offer the service. Mobile Ticket allows customers to get their movie tickets sent to their phones as mobile barcodes. Fans simply take their mobile phones straight to the theater ticket-taker (who scans the phone), bypassing the box office windows and kiosks
“Mobile Ticket is turning out to be one of our most popular products,” says Jessica Yi, Chief Product Officer of Fandango. “It was immediately successful, as moviegoers recognized it as a convenience they wanted. Many theater managers at Mobile Ticket screens tell us it is one more reason why their customers like using Fandango to go to the movies.”
Fandango’s Mobile Ticket is currently available at more than 1,200 screens, as the company previously rolled out the service with two other chains, Reading Cinemas and Hollywood Theaters. Fandango has plans to roll out the service to 1,000 additional screens in its network this year.
Fandango’s Mobile Ticket works with all mobile carriers, and does not require a smart phone or additional convenience fee. During the company’s record-breaking year in 2011, Fandango saw a 59% year-over-year increase in average monthly Mobile traffic, reaching as high as 9 million unique visitors per month, and a 73% year-over-year increase in mobile ticket sales year-to-date.
