Sierra Trading Post Inc. wants shoppers, including those who embrace social media, to be in the mood to guess early and often this Monday.
Sierra Trading, No. 88 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, is holding a contest today in which entrants must guess how much shoppers saved on its site over the long Thanksgiving holiday.
The winner will receive a $500 shopping spree. “This annual contest shows our customers Sierra Trading Post is saving them a bundle,” says community manager Juliette Rule. “It reminds me of the ‘guess how many jelly beans are in the jar’ game.”
Sierra Trading Post is counting heavily on social media to generate interest—and tally up the response rate—for its contest. To vote, Sierra Trading Post visitors can submit a response directly on the merchant’s Facebook page, using its Facebook app or on SierraSocialHub.com, a community site. Contestants, who could enter one guess per channel per day from Friday through Monday, could also enter the contest directly on SierraTradingPost.com.
In addition to the person who makes the best guess receiving a $500 credit, runners-up would qualify for shopping sprees from $25 to $250.
Sierra Trading runs an annual Thanksgiving giveaway. In 2009 the first contest, which also included Facebook, attracted more than 1,700 entrants.
