Backcountry.com hires a chief technology officer

Outdoor gear retailer Backcountry.com has hired CJ Singh as its chief technology officer.

Most recently, Singh was senior vice president of technology at online content and technology firm Synacor, Backcountry.com says. He spent three years as director of engineering and product development at Yahoo Inc., where he oversaw the company’s development centers in Latin America. Singh also has worked at Oracle on new product development.

It was Singh’s combination of technology and communication skills that appealed to Backcountry CEO Jill Layfield. “He has a signature team-focused management style,” she says.  “He possesses strategic vision and he has the unique ability to communicate strategy in a way that makes absolute, black-and-white sense to a large team of overachieving engineers.”

Backcountry.com is a unit of Liberty Interactive Corp., No. 8 in Internet Retailer’s Top 500 Guide.
