OfficeMax Inc. today said it has hired Jim Barr as executive vice president and chief digital officer, a job that puts him in charge of the retailer’s e-commerce business.
He reports to Ravi Saligram, CEO of the office supplies retailer, which is No. 9 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide. Barr starts his new job Nov. 14.
Since July, Barr has worked as an e-commerce advisor to OfficeMax. He also is CEO of Barr Associates, an e-commerce and online marketing consulting firm.
Between January 2008 and March 2010 he was president, online, for Sears Holdings Corp., No. 7 in the Top 500 Guide. Prior to that, he was general manager of commerce and marketplaces for Microsoft Corp., No. 68 in the Top 500 Guide.
“Jim is a proven digital expert who has built industry leading e-commerce businesses,” Saligram says. “That expertise will be invaluable to us as we invest in our digital offerings and develop a seamless multichannel experience for our retail consumers and our business customers.”
OfficeMax also said today that Michael MacDonald, executive vice president and president of the contract division, will leave the retailer for family reasons.
