Totsy.com, a private sale retailer that sells products for parents and children, says it has hired Richard Minns as its chief technology officer.

He comes from 1-800-Flowers.com Inc., No. 45 in Internet Retailer’s Top 500 Guide, where he had worked since 1996 and most recently was vice president of technology, according to his LinkedIn profile.

While at 1-800-Flowers, Minns designed budgets and managed relationships with the company’s gourmet food brands, says Totsy.com. He also worked as director of enterprise order management systems, focusing on software and site performance.

1-800-Flowers did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

For Totsy, No. 664 in Internet Retailer’s Second 500 Guide, Minns will oversee expansion of the technology team and develop e-commerce technology to help the retailer increase sales. Totsy says it increased sales 1,000% in 2010 from 2009, its first year of selling online; the company declines to give sales figures, but Internet Retailer estimates the retailer’s 2010 sales to be nearly $6.2 million, up 12.8% from $5.5 million in 2009.

“I am thrilled to join Totsy and to receive another opportunity to support their proven track record of success,” Minns says. “I look forward to taking on the challenge of implementing new technologies that can support Totsy’s rapid growth and deliver new business functionality while ensuring the high standard of customer service.”

Other recent hires at Totsy include former FAO Schwarz president David Niggli as chief merchandising officer and Ken O’Grady as vice president of operations. O’Grady held the same position at flash sale e-retailer ideeli Inc., No. 310 in Internet Retailer’s Top 500 Guide.

“Since launching two years ago, we have seen our executive team evolve into a collective of individuals at the top of their game and are excited to welcome another industry-leading expert to the Totsy.com family, especially as he will work to build our tech team,” says Guillaume Gauthereau, Totsy.com co-founder and CEO.
